Paul Nazca is tall and old. Maxime Dangles, young and spotty. Both of them are going downhill. Today, they are back as DANZCA in a struggle to save what is left of their career.
As a pure ‘has been’, Nazca is going round in circles. He’s desperately been trying to mix on three turntables but can never figure out which record is out of synch. Even a pair of Pioneer CDJ 1000 with integrated bpm counter won’t help. The final blow recently came during a warm-up session at the Rex Club in Paris, where people literally deserted the dance floor as he was performing. Still, Paul Nazca still believes he holds a future, quoting tracks he once released on BPitch Control, Boxer Sport and Giant Wheel.
Maxime Danglas is a young arrogant brat. Make no mistake: ‘Noémie’, which he released on Speicher in 2006, was not at all planned. The kompakt team came across it by accident, after a rather dodgy party. They remembered a track was needed to complete Speicher 39 and knew that they were running really late in their release schedule. They listened to Dangles’ track and decided that it was common enough to do the trick. Dangles now believes he is a star. He has lost half his friends, including those he has met through myspace.
The rare people who still follow Nazca and Dangles and their agonizing productions reckon this is their last chance. The truth, however, is that this new collaboration is bound to fail. It officially aims at allowing two generations to exchange and at reconciling analog machines and digital plug-ins. In practice however, it is a pathetic excuse for them to meet twice a week to down (olive-oil flavored) beer and crisps.
It would probably have been better if this had never occurred. But their collaboration is underway and a number of EPs, remixes and live performances are currently being put together.
For this, we apologise.
