(en) who is fusiphorm? he is cyhl. he is foundsound co-founder cyhl takerkart, and he is the identity responsible for the freakishly compelling new ep from foundsound records. though this is fusiphormís first vinyl release for foundsound, he has already dropped a number of solidly original tracks and remixes for unfoundsound, foundsound and plong! records. (meanwhile, he is in the midst of completing new tracks for sushitech purple and goosehound.) in keeping with the labelís goofball aesthetic, fusiphormís debut release offers three thumping ditties fueled by the crumpling folds and crevices of processed sound design. ìam i?î opens the ep with a 9-minute, deeply brooding dancefloor burner. the track builds amidst the circuits of a repeating and seemingly endless ìam i?î -- a voice that lays the groundwork for floors to be mopped up most untidily by an ensuing, wish mountain-like groove that emerges from the distorted remnants of (what we can only presume are) fusiphormís own contorted vocal samples. the play between ìam i?î and ìyouî generates a frenzied, bleeping stretch of melody, while the deconstructed samples suggest the ambiguous identity behind this jam -- driving the track to its exuberant finish. ìi amÖyou!î jokingly affirms the proximity between producer and listener -- getting into your head through a subtle drum sequence that employs a slew of grotesquely organic sounds and percussion samples. the track flows with the sort of crackling reverberations of audio detritus that characterize all of foundsoundís releases, yet stands out through its tracky use of ìyouî and ìi amî to build an even more effective and insistent second half -- sure to please club and afterhours djs alike. finally, the ep is rounded out with a remix of ìi amÖyou!î from foundsoundís own someone else, who seems always to manage his finest effort to date. signature tick-tock clocking rhythms frame an utterly wicked baseline, throbbing beneath the elongated vocal samples carved from fusiphormís original mix. the track is detailed with the deep, clinky reverbs and arranged feedback while maintaining a subtle pop element. someone elseís production has noticeably influenced the minimal techno heads of recent years. so, what are you waiting for? get on it!
