Canadian electro-techno kings My Favorite Robot return with a stunning remix package on their eponymously titled label, 'Wakinda Park' is the latest in a slew of outstanding records that are making MFR an imprint that deserve to heard. After the recent success of their 'We Comes in Pieces' long player, which saw rave reviews from press and heavy support from DJ's, the MFR boys have decided to put together a selection of remix packages featuring key cuts from the album. The first of these is 'Wakinda Park' a track that was an instant favourite for many, here it gets a working over by some of the hottest producer from Europe and North America. First into the mix we have Kenny Glasgow, a man that needs little introduction with his decades long experience as DJ, Producer and promoter. It seems 2009 has truly been his year however with a much lauded debut album and a string of great mixes. Here he provides 2 versions, firstly the 'Kenny Glasgow remix' which is an epic 12 minutes plus journey into the outer realms of hypnotic house. This is warm and spacey in a true Glasgow style with the vocals having an almost Joy Division vibe to them, stunning stuff. In counterpoint to this Glasgow provides his 'Kenny Glasgow as Sick Puppy's War against the Robots mix', a techy adventure that has a slightly darker edge yet retains that rich engaging sound characteristic of his production. Taking up the mantle from Mr G we have Daniel Holc AKA Ascii Disko, an individual who has been giving a one man production master class for the last 7 years with his outstanding singles and unique take on techno. For 'Wakinda Park' he leaves no stone unturned in his pursuit of perfection, turning in a mix that throbs and growls its way through the simple but perfectly balanced arrangement. The final honour falls to Parisian Italian Alessandro Russo AKA Slok who provides a perfect pair to close the package. First of the two is a wonderful slice of stripped tech house with subtle use of the vocals and a chugging bottom end that is bound to get feet moving wherever it is dropped. To finish we have 'Slok Orchestra Analog Tape mix', a short but sweet mix that opens with a powerful haunting piano line and brings the vocals to the fore before layering on strings creating a truly orchestral piece of leftfield music that shines.
