(en) after garnering plenty of hype with his 2005 debut release (double wimpfighter ep) on foundsound, baltimore's ben parris returns with even more sophistication, more pizzazz, more wit, and an avant-garde sense of slapstick playfulness. he remains meticulous with his stripped-down percussion patterns while the foundsound arrangements are more advanced than ever. on the dumbest ep ever, you get three bugged-out, goofo- rama minimal gems fit for both the big, big parties as well as the dingy afterhours - plus you get a deep, heady, loopy remix by butane of alphahouse fame. on a1 - "jacqui cracks on" - you have a minimal house burner doused with soulful, funny and deranged vocal snippets, frolicsome sound-crumpling, and a sort of modernized freaks-meet-ricardo dose of funky, boingy rhythms and snappy percussion. it's a funky, mental, goofball track ripe and alluring for the dancing bodies that are still bouncing after three days of no sleep. or for whoever and whenever. yeah, whatever. on a2 - "distilled windowsill" - little, funky percussion ticks and tacks its way through cleverly placed snippets of clashing, clanging, bleeping and gurgling. you get drawn in by a simple, carefree, low melody that carries you into mental bliss. the track is deep and über-heady. it's an uplifting afterhours mindfuck. on b1 - "the dumbest snuff ever (for whitney joe)" - you get a slapstickin' weirdo party-jam driven by a solid minimal groove and the disfigured storytelling of a redneck hick. clunky and airy found-sounds shatter and echo through funky, playful disarray atop shuffly, pencil-tapping percussion and a smooth, catchy, living room organ-like bassline. on b2, butane reworks "the dumbest snuff ever" into a deep and tracky afterhours jam saturated with hypnotic delays, dark reverbs and a snappy groove. a funky ass-shaker bassline eventually pokes its way through the windy, dreamlike joyride while leaving behind the slapstick funniness of the original version. so, indeed! welcome the dumbest ep ever with open arms, and become just as dumb as ben parris (and the rest of us asswipes
