(en) foundsound is thrilled to present an essential 4-track ep by mark-henning of london, england -- along with a remix by j. hunsberger of ontario, canada. mark-henning is an artist living a dual existence -- by day working amongst the suits as a corporate whore, and by night shedding his tie to become a subversive underground sound sculptor. he is also co-responsible for clever music -- an interweb music zine, mp3 label and soon-to-be vinyl label. his current musical direction has settled around a more minimal, bleepy side of house and techno as championed by the likes of dbx, richie hawtin, someone else, mike ink, matthew dear and others. he is a resident dj at the clever music parties in london alongside alex stephen, and he has played events across the uk, europe and the u.s. mark-henning has releases on labels like freude am tanzen, einmaleins, frankie, milnor modern, clever and more. the "a1" side ("bombay kicks") is a stabbing dancefloor gem that parallels his freude am tanzen releases -- driving deeply with quirky synths, shuffly rhythms, goofy reverbs and bouncing blips. the "a2" track ("bombay kicks - j. husberger's kicked in bombay remix") offers a druggy dj tool for the minimal connoisseur. j. hunsberger is known for releases on labels like revolver, mutek, cynosure and others. his remix for foundsound is simplistic and obscure at the same time -- meanwhile maintaining henning's heady playfulness. on "b1" ("british bulldog"), the goofball antics continue with irresistibleness. a cheerful, bouncy bassline lures you in relentlessly amidst a funny voice rising in pitch chanting "save me," dorky synth stabs and an overall dancefloor pizzazz. and "b2" ("am i bothered though") is the most experimental of the four -- gurgling with dirty found sounds, ghetto-ass "yo!" voices, scraping crackles, a grinding basslines and ingenious effects. eat it up!
