Mugwump // Throne Of Blood
Format // 12"
Geoffroy & Kolombo are both part of the booming Belgian dance scene and form the Mugwump project (a project Geoffroy created, initially working with the Spirit Catcher). They release cutting-edge dance music together on Kompakt, for whom they are currently recording their debut LP but also have landed side-releases and guest appearances on other gigantic techno labels such as Cocoon, Gigolo or R&S and also on various cosmic/disco/pop imprints such as Eskimo, Permanent Vacation, Endless Flight/Mule Musiq, Misericord or modern house labels like Mood Music and Disco 45. The Mugwump "sound" is genetically Belgian and pleads for an emphasis on the groove and the psychedelic vibe. The music they create together lies between disco sophistication and modern techno, with a hint of Belgian New-Beat sometimes. They have thus come up with that fancy "disco-techno" sound and tag and see dj support so far from the likes of Sven Vath, Ivan Smagghe, Pete Herbert, Ewan Pearson, The Glimmers, Damian Lazarus, Kiki, Serge (Clone), Joe Goddard (Hot Chip), Chlöé, Trevor Jackson, Ellen Alien, James Lavelle, Andy Weatherall, Peter Kruder, Michaël Mayer, Dubfire, Mr Scruff, Aeroplane, DJ Hell, Adam Marshall, Nathan G Wilkins, Freeform Five, Dominik Eulberg, Craig Richards, Midnight Mike or Mark E to name but a really few... Mugwump remixes for the likes of Canadian band Shout Out Out Out, upcoming producer DC Salas and Kompakt mainstay and founder Juergen Paape are about to be released while their third Kompakt 12" is scheduled for release in August 2010. An exclusive and seriously crazy Mugwump track is also scheduled on Kompakt's upcoming Total 11 compilation and Geoffroy is also working on new material with London's Pete Herbert under their brand new Novo Agio alias. After an ultra-busy 2009 year, Mugwump is delighted to grace Throne of Blood, a label they are really digging, with their first original productions of 2010 and a double tracker that fuses a lot of their previous influences, such as Italo, EBM, acid-house, techno, classic disco, dub or breaks, all clashing to the sound they've expertly crafted and produced. Get a glimpse of their devastating new club sound.... Ivan Smagghe: "there is a very very special kind of great records. rare as hell. they're the ones that you have in your box but that blow your mind when someone more clever than you are plays it at the right moment. that's exactly what "congregation of discarded clerks" did for me. I had it for ages, Michael Mayer played it and I rushed like an idiot to ask him what this bomb was... This is a big compliment for the record (who likes obvious hits ? not me) and a kick in the arse for myself, especially that it exactly fits into what I love : old school gone now, disco gone trance, fearless of a hint of cheese, slow and funky as fuck. In one word: brilliant."
