(en) over the past three years, foundsound's own someone else has been blanketing the minimal scene with his unique releases and remixes -- often doused with quirky snippets of field recordings, playful reverbs and a powerful groove. in may 2007, expect a debut album (cd/2x12'') from someone else on foundsound -- titled pen caps and colored pencils (found-14). this three-track ep, lowdown brittle ep, is a pre-release for the album -- featuring one track from the album along with remixes by foundsound's own fusiphorm as well as the superstar mofo himself, josh wink. on a1 - "lowdown brittle" - you get the original version by someone else. it starts with the frenchaccented voice of foundsound's own fusiphorm, explaining for an interview the concept of making dance music with found sounds. this later continues in the middle of the track as a breakdown. the track is deep and groovy with a snazzy, funky bassline -- mixed with more chopped voices, reverbs, delays, squeaks, crunches, blips and bleeps. on a2 - "lowdown brittle (fusiphorm's simple remix)" - fusiphorm reworks the deep and heady tune based on his own words into a tracky, minimal dj tool. as the title states, the remix is simplistic, but catchy -- fueled by a rolling bassline, playful found sounds (from the original), snappy percussion and an alluring breakdown. on b1 - "lowdown brittle (WiNK's profound sound interpretation)" - you get a club-killer courtesy of philadelphia's josh wink. the remix is nearly 12 minutes long -- driving with a minimal beat and layered percussion. voices from the original are cut up, pitched, and heavily reverberated. a sweeping synthbassline rips your guts out. and you get pleasantly clobbered by an array of the kind of brain-teasing breakdowns which made wink so famous in the first place.
