(en) Lan Muzic is back with a devastating two-tracker from two artists separated by national boundaries but clearly linked by their penchant for the dark side. The A-side comes from Brussels' Peter Van Hoesen, known for previous releases on Lan and Foton, and also the proprietor of the upcoming T2X label (www.t2x.be). 'L.O.C.' is a dark, dubtechno beast with the consistency of boiling blood. Gritty and queasily electric, this is the sound of machines fighting and frugging once the studio has been locked up for the night. A distorted voice pushes through the din, like the last words of a man facing a firing squad: this is darkside rave with a bunker mentality, dirty and devastating. On the flip, Philip Sherburne delivers his 'Lungbutter remix'. Remaining faithful to the sinister atmosphere of the original, Sherburne (fresh off remix duties for Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts) injects the tune with a jacking house rhythm and drags the vocals to hell and back; a chorus of bells and bleeps adds to the claustrophobic sense of space, while a midrange-heavy breakdown blows everything wide open. Peak hours, after hours - this one will do damage at any time of night or day.
