Boxer Compilation Vol.1

Various Artists // Boxer

You will ask: Why on earth another compilation? Well, we have to admit that no one really needs another compilation if you look at the flood magazines, CD stores and other suffereres have to face. The situation is rather inflationary.. "But..." we have to reply at this point, up to now, we have been completely innocent, apart from some sampler contributions. That's why we are washing our hands of it and think it's more than alright - after 32 12inch maxi releases and 4 albums - to finally come up with a representative cross section of our label work so far. So here comes a selection of 11, well matching tracks on CD that are not meant to give you a complete overview, but rather an idea of our style and taste. From Boxer 01 by Frank Martiniq that made a great start thanks to Michael Mayer's contribution, the early 2004 12inch releases by Frank Martiniq and Delon & Dalcan who paced the style and way for the following two years, to the new entrants Duoteque & Maximilian Skiba. This CD is a cruise through the different Boxer volumes, from the prime time A-side to the beloved, wacky B2 track. In 2002, we were knocking for the first time on the doors of the music world, armed with 2 demo tapes and the confidence to become a real CD label. At that time, we didn't have a clear concept and actually, we didn't want any. We simply did what we wanted to. This used to be and still is our motto: no ideological blinkers, not only a straight look ahead, but interested in what's happening on the left and right hand side of the way. The result of this panoramic view was and still is that the number of new, national and international artists and projects and their debuts on Boxer, 13 is unusually high. And moreover, our sound spectrum - from weirdo organ minimal tunes to a kind of Black Strob-ish banging - is really wide. By the way: as you can see from our discography, the original idea of becoming a CD label did not really work out. But this is why we are still happily working for our label. We don't really care if our concept of releasing a remix double album results in a 12inch remix series, or if the originally juged "hobby" track turns out to be a real hit, or if our plan for the next 6 releases fails because every single one has already been released and we have no idea of what's next….there are always situations that make us smile. We do hope that this Boxer CD compilation will be able to give you the idea and fun of our label work.
