It's not everyday that Throne of Blood has the chance to work with National Geographic, but when we heard the remix label mainstays Populette were doing for Nat Geo Music, we immediately started angling to get involved. The artist is Bibi Tanga & The Selenites, a band from Paris led by Bibi Tanga and Professeur Inlassable. Borrowing influence and inspiration with reckless abandon, the African-born Tanga and his bandmates seem to exist outside of time. Their recent album, Dunya, sounds a bit like Fela Kuti, Chic and Sidney Bechet getting together to jam at a disco on the Left Bank of the Seine. For this special, ultra-limited release, Throne of Blood is proud to present two mind-blowing remixes of our favorite jam off of Dunya: "Be Africa". Side A finds Populette stretching themselves out, taking this afrobeat stormer and transforming it into a deep and funky afrohouse workout tough enough for peaktime dancefloors. Euphoric vocals, funky guitars and handclaps drenched in echo compliment a simple but irresistable bassline. On the flip, erstwhile DFA co-founder and production mastermind (Hercules & Love Affair, Massive Attack) Tim Goldsworthy delivers a mix with a simply epic breakdown.
