Bedroom Community - An Introduction
Bedroom Community is a unique Icelandic company formed by renowned producer Valgeir Sigurðsson. The record label is built around the facilities of his Greenhouse Recording Studios in Reykjavík, where he has made his name collaborating on defining albums for genre-defying artists (such as Björk, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billie, CocoRosie, Camille and many others).

Bedroom Community - An Introduction
Bedroom Community is a unique Icelandic company formed by renowned producer Valgeir Sigurðsson. The record label is built around the facilities of his Greenhouse Recording Studios in Reykjavík, where he has made his name collaborating on defining albums for genre-defying artists (such as Björk, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billie, CocoRosie, Camille and many others).
Valgeir formed the label with friends and collaborators Nico Muhly and Ben Frost. They soon added Sam Amidon to their intimate roster of artists, and most recently Icelandic composer Daníel Bjarnason. The idea of community and musical collaboration is the cornerstone of the label, and Bedroom Community is indeed a true collective crossing musical and geographical borders.
The artists, based in New York and Reykjavík, work frequently on each other’s projects and are constantly travelling between the two cities as well as touring in Europe and the US.
The label was launched at the prestigious ‘Iceland Airwaves’ music festival in 2006 where, in front of a capacity audience, new music from the Bedroom Community artists was presented in a - now legendary - debut show. Bedroom Community and its artists have since garnered a huge amount of international press attention and support throughout their five album releases, the associated tours and special performances at venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and The Royal Festival Hall in London.
The tag ‘record label’ describes a small part of Bedroom Community’s activities. The members of Bedroom Community have composed music for films, TV, dance performances, theater, performance art pieces and installations, as well as diverse events in Iceland, around Europe and in the United States.
