The Köln Schauspielhaus, a major cultural center in Cologne is facing demolition!
More than 70 percent of Cologne was leveled by the bombs in World War Two. One of the first reconstruction projects in efforts to rebuild the city was appointed to architect Wilhelm Riphahn, to build the Opera House, Opernterrassen, and the Schauspielhaus; three culturally rich buildings. In previous years, Riphahn's buildings could be seen around the city, however most of them have been demolished or changed through modernization, and now two more buildings are facing destruction. To our dismay, City Council recently voted to tear down the Schauspielhaus and the Opernterrassen.
There will be two events in order to help save these two historical buildings on Friday Feb. 5 and Monday Feb. 15th.
